My Journey Home

By Charles Johnston:

I’ve been asked many times about my conversion, what made me dissatisfied with the status quo in the churches I attended, what convinced me that the claims the Catholic Church made were true, what was the final “push” to jump into the current and swim the Tiber river?

I’ve answered each one to whoever asked, but I’ve never sat down and gave a “defense for the hope that is in me” (1 Peter 3:15), until now.

Ash Wednesday

A brief reflection on the readings from Ash Wednesday, by Charles Johnston

By Charles Johnston:

Ash Wednesday may be behind us but the readings from that day should be remembered and reflected upon, and not just during Lent. The themes of internal conversion and avoidance of hypocrisy are for every day.

It’s always striking to hear the scripture readings on Ash Wednesday. On a day that we place a visible sign of our faith, directly on our faces, we are told by Jesus not to do such a thing. How does this line up with our actions? Continue reading “Ash Wednesday “

The Story of Salvation; Joshua (part 2)

By Charles Johnston:

In my previous post (The Story of Salvation; Joshua part 1) we looked at Joshua’s life leading up until he arrived at Jericho. It is in Jericho that Joshua would gain his ultimate victory. If you ask any Christian, or Jew, what Joshua is known for they would most likely say  it’s for conquering Jericho. Although he had an eventful life up until this point, and had won some impressive victories, I’d have to agree, because Jericho wasn’t just another military victory. When the walls came down it was through a very unlikely means, and that ensured that all Israel knew who to thank for the victory. (Hint, it wasn’t Joshua) Continue reading “The Story of Salvation; Joshua (part 2)”

The Story of Salvation; Joshua (part 1)

By Charles Johnston:

In an earlier post in this series (Intel Report ) I wrote about Joshua as a supporting character, now is his time to step up to the main stage.

Throughout the children of Israel’s time wandering the desert, Joshua was Moses’ lieutenant and the commander of his army (as can be seen in Exodus chapters 17, 24, 32, 33, just for example in one book).  Continue reading “The Story of Salvation; Joshua (part 1)”

Advent: The Nativity & The Second Coming

By Charles Johnston:

Advent, the English translation of the Latin word adventus meaning “coming”, is often thought of as the time leading up to the birth of Christ. While this is right, it is only half right.  Continue reading “Advent: The Nativity & The Second Coming “

Do You Believe This?

By Charles Johnston:

The promise of eternal life, and a reason for sufferings. These are the themes of John 11, they really deserve an entire book, and not just an online 2000 word post, but as one of my favorite chapters in the entire Bible I felt like giving it a go here.  Continue reading “Do You Believe This?”

The Story of Salvation; The Bronze Serpent

By Charles Johnston:

The Story of Salvation so far has took us from the garden of Eden, to the land of Canaan, to slavery in Egypt, and now we find the Israelites wondering in the desert.
